The Rev. Robert I. Miles, Jr.
Pastor

Pastor Miles was born September 25, 1953, in Richmond, Virginia, and Baptized by his grandfather in First English Lutheran Church, Richmond, January 3, 1954. He was confirmed at Christ Lutheran in Richmond on May 24, 1967. Robert graduated from Davidson College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. From 1976 to 1980, Robert attended Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. He did his Clinical Pastoral Education at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, and served his internship at St. John Lutheran Church, Knoxville, Tennessee, 1978-1979. He was ordained June 1, 1980 at Grace Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, VA, and served as Pastor of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Chapin, SC, from July 1980 to August 1988. He became Pastor at St. Michael Lutheran Church on August 25, 1988.

Robert enjoys hobbies of swimming, fishing, sailing, kayaking, and of course, his Miata.

Robert and his wife Debbie have two grown children, Jessica and Adam.

The Rev. Elise T. Stringer
Associate Pastor for Faith Formation

Elise was born January 25, 1980, in Columbia, SC.  She was raised in Irmo, a suburb of Columbia, where her parents, Gene and Terry, still reside.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism, Elise continued on to Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, to pursue a Masters of Divinity. While in seminary she worked as a youth director at a Presbyterian Church in Irmo, where she met Jeffrey Stringer.  Jeffrey and Elise were married December 11th, 2004.  Elise graduated from LTSS May 18, 2007, and was ordained on July 27, 2008 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC.

Jeffrey and Elise are both enthusiastic Gamecock fans; enjoy attending football and basketball games, as well as playing softball, basketball, golf and tennis. Elise is an avid runner; finding in running a time to refuel, talk with God and enjoy nature.

Tyndall Stringer, their first child, was welcomed into the family recently, and Jeffrey and Elise feel blessed and overjoyed at this little miracle in their lives!

Charlie Jones
Organist and Music Director

The son of Charles and Frances Jones, Charlie was born in Greenville on 12 November 1951.  A piano student of former Greenville Symphony conductor, Peter Rickett, Charlie began playing piano for Mountain Creek Baptist Church at the age of 12. It was here that he learned that Church Music was a ministry of call. He graduated from Furman University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts-cum laude- in history and education.

Charlie came to St. Michael in 1986 as organist after serving in the same position at Lee Road United Methodist for 10 years. He has been employed at Pecknel Music Company for 25 years and presently holds the position of store manager.

Active in the local arts community, he is a member of the Greenville Chorale where he has served as President and Board Member; The American Guild of Organists, where he as served as both sub-dean and dean; and the Greenville Music Club.

Raised in a "green thumb" family, Charlie is an avid gardener, loves to read, cross-stitch and collect Dept. 56 Christmas Villages.
